More from Katherine, Darcy and Gem
Hey Jason,
I have included some photos of Gale and Darcy under saddle mid November last Year. Haven't got any new ones of as yet, when I do I'll send them thought to you.
Just letting you known how the ponies are going.
Darcy is working like a Gem. Has got the canter right and we are now on to Lengthening the stride at the trot and he even did his first flying change this week. He has come a long way and is ready for his first show under saddle in mid May. I am thinking of taking him to Woodend show as a starter show before winter hits and get him use to a show before we head out and start in August in the Newcomer Classes.
He went to Colac Show, his first show of the season two weeks a go and got 2nd in Open Led Pony 12.2hh to 14hh with 23 in the class which was not an bad job, The judge said he has a great temp and would love to see him under saddle as she thought he would make a lovely hunter pony.
He got 1st in his Australian Pony Led Class and then went Champion Australian Pony, went to Barastoc Horse of the Year last weekend and he got called in 1st out of 25 and placed 3rd over all in the A.P.S.B led gelding 12.2hh to 14hh.
Gale is an Angel. She seems to work better on windy and cold days then on nice days. She has come along in leaps and bounds and is not that far behind Darcy. She is a very quick learner.
You teach her one thing one day and she picks it up right away. She is also ready to head out under saddle in mid May also to Woodend Show and then head out in mid August to start the Newcomer Classes her and Darcy will be up against each other.
She didn't go to Colac Show as I decided to leave her home as there was no space in the float, we took her to Barastoc Horse of the Year and we got 4th over all in the A.P.S.B Filly 3yrs. Judge liked her yet said she was more suited to saddle then to led. Which was great to hear, also said she has what it takes to be a Super Star under saddle.
We are now heading of to the Summer Royal at Werribee Park on the 11th to 14th of March, 08. I will give them a ride around so they get use to the feel of everything before we head out under saddle. I'm looking forward to starting their saddle career soon. And will be keeping in contact once we start of how they are going.
Hope this time next year I'm writing an email and letting you known how the results of their Newcomer Classes went at Barastoc Horse of the Year or hopefully celebrating success as Champion Newcomer Hunter Large Pony and Champion Newcomer Large Pony .
They are both heading down a great path and hopefully they can become as successful under saddle as they are in their led classes. Once again you have done a Great and Wonderful job on both the ponies and over the moon on how they have turned out.
Watched the Newcomer Hunter Ponies at Barastoc and a lot seem to have been pushed to early, heads to far on the bit, pulling, not listening to the rider and in some ways not seeming to enjoy being under saddle. These two ponies do nothing like that they enjoy being ridden and are really listening to the rider, have taken the time in making sure that they enjoy what they are doing. I set a goal every day when I head out and ride, if they do it straight away we finish for the day, if they don't we just keep going to they do what I have asked and then we finish. They both learn that I'm not going to keep asking if they do what I ask straight away and they seem to learn a lot quicker. Both are looking like Show Saddle Ponies and are enjoying what they are doing. I'm very surprised at what both ponies have picked up.
