Kings Allegro (Al) is a three year old gelding (foaled Dec. 2004) by the imported German Oldenburger stallion Capone out of the thoroughbred mare APH Adagio. Al is the third generation of the "A" line family that was founded with Kings Piastra (Annie) a mare purchased from the Canberra thoroughbred yearling sales in the 1980s with the view to race but she was a stunning mare with warmblood movement who was subsequently approved for registration in the international Studbook APH.
Annie bred a number of very successful dressage and jumping horses. Her last foal was to the licensed Australian thoroughbred stallion Meriville, APH Adagio, a very talented mare who was dogged by injury.
When deciding to breed from her, we looked for an Australian based German bred horse with the top requirement being a good temperament, followed by movement and size. Capone, who at the time stood at Belcam International, fitted the bill on all counts. Fortunately the theory worked and in Al we have the modern warmblood with a great temperament. The mare was bred back to Capone with the 2006 foal, Aria, now with successful rider Michelle Oliver. Currently Adagio is in foal to the Bloomfield Farm imported stallion, Royal Hit.
We chose Jason to start Al, having had a number of discussions about the philosophy of a young horse's education and we felt that Jason had a lot to offer. The result has been very successful. Jason does not believe in a fixed time to get them going, it all depends on the reaction of each individual horse and Al came home to me very conditioned to his role in life as a riding horse, and very well adjusted mentally to the work. It was a great base for me to begin training him, and I am really looking forward to the challenge.
The mid term aim is to prepare him for 2009 Dressage with the Stars as a four year old, and as an A level EFA dressage judge and approved Young Horse judge I am quietly confident he will measure up to the standard.
