As an instructor of 10years I draw on my experience with traditional dressage training, natural horsemanship and the study of equine bio mechanics.
Lessons are individually designed to meet the needs of each horse and rider combination. Specific issues for each horse are addressed using a combination of exercises to alleviate imbalances, crookedness and asymmetries to achieve flexibility, balance, true straightness, relaxation and responsiveness. I happily work with all types of horses and riders at all levels of ability. Skills for both horse and rider are taught progressively and in a logical fashion that build on a solid foundation for both.
Lunging, work in hand and ridden work combine to make a complete program that develops the horse mentally, emotionally & physically resulting in relaxation, an improved understanding and relationship between horse and rider and very importantly, longevity in the health, age and career of your horse.
The School of Eclectic Horsemanship & Classical Riding has absolute respect for the horse. For this reason, the philosophy strictly rejects any methods of training with mechanical restraints fixing the horse in unnatural positions with artificial aids and force. We present a strong focus on the personal because you have to change on the inside to be highly successful with horses on the outside.
Our clinics are conducted locally but Jason also travels over Australia & NZ. Please feel free to contact us to discuss becoming a dedicated organiser for your clinic in your area. We offer incentives to dedicated students of the School that will encourages you to keep developing your dreams and goals.

Q: Which lesson, clinic or course is right for you? Most importantly which is right for your horse?
A: This season Jason will be offering 3 main clinics as per described below designed to cater for both horse and rider.
Q: Can I use any equipment other than specified Eclectic HMS equipment or similar?
A: No, there is equipment bought and used on price and equipment bought and used for a purpose. Since you’re on a journey to improve you and your horse, specific equipment gives you specific results. Do you want to be like everyone else, getting the same results as everyone else?
Q: If I love and care for horses as a non-rider do you have a program suitable for me?
A: Yes I do, Horsemanship for the Recreational Rider (RR) suits also ground staff at your facility, your partner who is non horsey but wants to be a part of the journey.
Q: How much are your clinics and how long do they run?
A: My clinics this year are $110 p/p/d and are either 2, 3 or 4 days in duration. The 2 day clinics are Sat & Sun or Mid-week Tuesday & Wednesday, 3 & 4 day clinics run Friday, Saturday, Sunday & Monday or combination of. Please contact us for further details.
Q: Do I need to bring anything in particular to your clinics?
A: Always be prepared with a comfortable seat and food, note pad and anything suitable for the conditions. Most clinics are in indoor arenas but they can show the extremes of weather too. Please remember NO videos to be taken during the clinics.
#1- Horsemanship for the Recreational Rider (RR) “
HMS for the Recreational rider is divided into 3 elements - The Trust Me Process, Safe “n” Sound & Horsemanship under saddle all of which are the foundation components to my method. This element like them all can be studied over 1 day, 1 week or a life time. The Trust Me Process is the “go too” for problem solving, warming up, cooling down, getting connected mentally, physically & spiritually. Whether you’re looking to start a colt, road testing a new horse, bring a horse in from spelling, or just worming up your horse for a session, lesson or clinic the Trust Me Process is the Bees Knees. This course covers the basics for preparing your horse safely under saddle and must already be comfortable in the snaffle bit.
Educating your horse isn’t about following rules; it’s allowing yourself to follow timeless principles
#2- The Shaping Process, Horsemanship Foundations (HF) “
This class is designed for all levels of riders no matter what discipline, but must be already comfortable in the snaffle bit as this is not a colt starting course. This element like them all can be studied over 1 day, 1 week or a life time. Horsemanship for the Recreational Rider is a pre requisite for this course unless you have made prior arrangements with Jason. In the morning of this class we will further SHAPE the horse from the ground with ground work, in hand manoeuvres and obstacles. After lunch we will bridge the gap from the ground to under saddle with the first stage of all basic movements.
Time is the gift, give it freely to your horse and you will both be the better for it.
#3 – Finesse with Lightness thru Balance, Timing & Feel (FL)“(FL)
This introductory course to classical lightness & finesse in your riding is unique in that the central principle of the school is absolute respect for the horse. For this reason, the philosophy strictly rejects any methods of training with mechanical restraints fixing the horse in unnatural positions with artificial aids and force.
Developing finesse & lightness starts with working with your horse from the ground on the lunge & in hand and then bridging the gap under saddle and teaching your horse to travel in a posture that accentuates the movements for classical riding, whilst promoting longevity and soundness in your horse.
The first day or 2 will be conducted as a group focusing on general concepts and obstacles if required with the other days refining what you have learn t in personal lessons with Jason.
Riding truly becomes an art when sensitivity and knowledge of the horse combine to produce lightness in the hands of the horse
